 <li><H2> Short biography </H2>
   <ul>
    <li> 1909: birth of William Cook, later known as Antony Tudor,
in London.
    <li> 1928: he discovers dance thanks to a performance of
Anna Pavlova in London. He decides to attend the lessons of Marie
Rambert, former dancer of the <a href="dance1.html">Ballets Russes</a>,
and becomes a member of her company, the Ballet-Club, in 1930.</p>
    <li> 1931: first choreography, <strong>Cross Garter'd</strong>, after Shakespeare's
"Twelfth Night". Tudor also dances with the Sadler Well's Ballet
until 1935.
    <li> 1936-37: two masterpieces: <a href="Lilac.html"><strong>Lilac Garden</strong></a>  and <a href="Dark.html"><strong>Dark Elegies</strong>
</a>.
    <li> 1938: he creates the London Ballet, with the help of
Agnes De Mille.</p>
    <li> 1939: he's invited in New York City by the Ballet Theatre,
and restages some of his ballets for this company. He creates
there some of his best ballets: <a href="Pillar.html"><strong>Pillar of fire</strong></a> (1942),
<a href="Dim.html"><strong>Dim Lustre</strong></a> (1943), <a href="Undertow.html"><strong>Undertow</strong></a> (1945), 
<a href="Shadowind.html"><strong>Shadow of the Wind</strong></a> (1948),
and becomes famous as a "psychological choreographer".
    <li> 1950: he becomes the head of the Dance School of the
Metropolitan Opera in New York, and gives classes at the Julliard School.
    <li> 1952: he creates <a href="Glory.html"><strong>La Gloire</strong>
</a> for the NYCB.
    <li> 1963: he creates <a href="Echoing.html"><b>Echoing of Trumpets</b></a>
for the Royal Swedish Ballet.
    <li> 1967: he comes back to London and creates <a href="Shadowp.html"><strong>Shadowplay</strong></a>
for the <a href="Royal.html"> Royal Ballet </a>, and in 1969
he creates <strong> "Divine horsemen" </strong> for the Australian Ballet.
    <li> 1974: he's associated to the direction of the American
Ballet Theater, and creates for it <a href="Leaves.html"><strong> The Leaves are fading</strong></a> (1975) with
Gelsey Kirkland, and <strong> "Tiller in the fields"</strong>.(1978)    
    <li> 1987: He dies on April 19.
