Choreography: Leonide Massine.
Plot: Jean Cocteau.
Sets and costumes: Pablo Picasso.

Premiered on May 18, 1917 by the Ballets Russes in Paris (Théâtre du Châtelet).

Dancers at the premiere: Leonide Massine (the Russian magician), Lydia Lopokova, Leon Woizikovsky, Nicolas Zvereff (the acrobats), Maria Chabelska (the American little girl).

This ballet caused a big scandal when it was premiered in 1917, especially because of the "cubist" costumes of Picasso.
